On December 22, 2019, Betty Adhiambo Adera, a Kenyan peace activist and humanitarian, was awarded the Global Icon Award at the First Anniversary Edition of the Passion Vista Global Icon Awards in Los Angeles.
Adera, who represented Nairobi County in the Ms President competition, was recognized for her outstanding work in peace building and humanitarian efforts. She took to Twitter to express her gratitude and share photos of the award ceremony.
"Passion Vista Global Icon Award 2019 finally in my hands and several copies of my feature on the front page of Passion Magazine," Adera tweeted, accompanied by a photo of the award and magazine.
She also shared a photo of herself kneeling down next to her name printed on the floor of the Los Angeles venue, captioning it "Now I know why its called Hollywood and Kenyans in peace building and humanitarian works are not left behind".
Adera is the CEO and Founder of the Betty Adera Foundation International, an organization that focuses on preventing gender-based violence, empowering women and girls, and promoting peace and cohesion.
She was one of the top five contenders in the Ms President title, which was won by Nereah Amondi Oketch, a member of the Homa Bay County Assembly.
