On December 19, 2019, the Kiambu County Assembly voted to impeach Governor Ferdinand Waititu. However, in a letter to the Senate, Waititu protested that the impeachment was irregular, citing lack of quorum and alleged doctoring of records.

According to Waititu, the Assembly did not have the requisite statutory quorum at any point during the proceedings. He claimed that 35 MCAs were absent, with 30 at Lake Bogoria Lodge and three in Dubai on official duty.

Waititu accused the Speaker of the Assembly of falsifying records, including CCTV footage, the Hansard, and biometric logs. He also claimed that the Assembly's records were being manipulated to support the impeachment motion.

On Thursday, Speaker Stephen Ndichu announced Waititu's impeachment, stating that 63 Members of the County Assembly voted in favour of his removal, while 28 failed to turn up for the session. One MCA voted against the impeachment motion.

Waititu was accused of engaging in corrupt dealings, abuse of office, and gross misconduct. He was also accused of violating public procurement rules and conflict of interest after it emerged that tenders in the county were awarded to companies owned by his relatives.

On December 10, an impeachment against Waititu and his deputy James Nyoro failed to take off after it emerged that the grounds for the impeachment did not meet the legal threshold.
