On December 22, 2019, Kisumu All Stars suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Gor Mahia in the 'Dala Derby' at Moi Stadium in Kisumu. The loss has sparked controversy, with coach Henry Omino blaming match officials for the outcome.
Gor Mahia's victory was secured through goals from Kenneth Muguna, Nicholas Kipkurui, and Bernard Ondiek in the second half. The win propelled Gor Mahia to the top of the Kenya Premier League table.
Omino expressed his frustration, stating that the match referee lost control in the second half and denied his team a clear penalty when neither team had scored.
'We lost to Gor Mahia not because we were a poor team, but because of the match officials' unfair decisions. It was shocking to be denied a clear penalty when they had not scored. Had it been awarded to us, we could have scored and boosted our chances of winning the game,' Omino said in an interview with Nation Sport.
The coach also criticized the culture of intimidation by Gor Mahia fans, which he believes affects match officials' decisions. He called on the KPL management to ensure fair officiating in games.
