On December 23, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Jackson Njau Kinyanjui, a top suspect in the multi-billion-shilling Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) upon his arrival from the United States of America (USA).

According to sources, Mr. Njau claimed to have been cleared to travel after securing his passport from Milimani Law Courts, following his previous arrest. He was among the suspects arrested and arraigned earlier due to the Treasury's payments made before acquiring the project site for Arror, which he allegedly approved together with Mr. Kennedy Nyakundi, the chief economist, resulting in Sh21 billion in taxpayers' money being lost.

Mr. Jackson Njau Kinyanjui is currently listed as the acting Director General of the Public Management Office and Director of External Resources Department (currently Resource Mobilization Department) in the National Treasury.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, had ordered the arrest of Mr. Njau and 27 other top government and agencies officials over the scandal earlier in the year.

As investigations continue, the suspect remains in police custody.
