Kenya Railways has announced the suspension of its commuter train services to Ruiru, Embakasi, Kikuyu, and Syokimau, effective immediately, just two days before Christmas Day.

The corporation made the announcement on their official social media pages, stating that the operations will resume on January 6, 2020.

According to the notice, the Nairobi Commuter Rail Services will be suspended until January 6, 2020, but the Link train operating between Nairobi Central station and Nairobi Terminus will be available throughout the holiday period.

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai had issued a road safety statement to Kenyans ahead of the Christmas festivities, warning passengers that they will be held accountable for overloading of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

IG Mutyambai clarified that passengers will be dealt with as individuals if found at any police roadblocks as excess passengers in a matatu or PSV, and the vehicle will be allowed to proceed with seated passengers.
