On November 25, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto attended the BBI report handover to President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, where he shook hands with Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

However, Governor Mutua later reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that the DP had threatened his life during the handshake, claiming Ruto said, 'Wewe jamaa umekuwa ukinichapa sana, wewe lazima sasa nikugonge. Nitakugonga.'

Responding to the claims for the first time on Sunday, Ruto joked about the allegations, saying his handshake with Mutua never communicated any threats.

Speaking at the Isambo Beach Carnival in Budalang’i, Busia County, Ruto said, '…

He continued, '…
