On December 21, 2019, a tragic accident occurred in northwestern Zambia, where President Edgar Lungu was on a tour. A presidential motorcade struck and killed a 40-year-old woman, Muyunda Mboma, who was an employee of Kachema Butcheries in Solwezi.

According to a statement from State House, President Lungu was deeply saddened by the death and expressed his extreme sadness upon learning of the accident. However, it was unclear whether the President was in the convoy at the time of the incident.

North Western Province Police Commissioner Hudson Namachila confirmed that Mboma sustained fatal injuries and died on the way to a local hospital. The accident occurred when Mboma attempted to cross the dual carriage way on Independence Avenue.
