On December 20, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto publicly expressed his support for Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who is facing a raft of graft charges.

Speaking at a chicken auction in Uasin Gishu county, Ruto stated, "Sonkoree is facing challenges but those will pass."

The event, held at the famous Kambi Kuku stage, raised a total of Sh11 million, with 13,000 chicken sold at Sh800 each.

Notably, Ruto has a personal connection to the chicken auction, having sold chickens during his youthful days.

Meanwhile, Sonko is out on bail but has been barred from accessing his official office amid growing reports he could be impeached.
