December 23, 2019 - Senegal's energy sector is on the verge of a major transformation with the near completion of the Parc Eolien Taiba N'Diaye, a utility-scale wind farm that will inject a significant amount of power into the national grid.

The wind farm, which is expected to be completed in 2020, will feature 46 Vesta Wind turbines, each producing 3.5 MW of power. With a total capacity of 158.7MW, the wind farm will contribute a 15% boost to Senegal's energy sector.

According to Lekela Power, a company that has installed close to 1,000 MW across West Africa, the wind farm has already started producing energy, just 8 months into construction. The construction of the wind farm's substation was completed and energized in October this year.

The Parc Eolien Taiba N'Diaye is a product of Plan Senegal Emergent (PSE), a flagship project under President Macky Sall. The plan aims to boost Senegal's economy by reducing energy costs, which are among the highest globally.

Since the launch of the plan in 2014, $3.5 billion has been raised through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to finance the energy sector. This has led to significant growth in Senegal's power capacity, increasing from 510MW in 2015 to 12,000MW in 2018.
