Published on December 23, 2019, the Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) will return to Mombasa on January 24, 2020, to honor Kenya's top athletes and officials for their outstanding performances in 2019.
Among the nominees for the Coach of the Year category is KCB rugby coach Curtis Olago, who has been shortlisted for the prestigious award multiple times.
Olago's impressive season saw KCB defend the Kenya Cup for a third consecutive year, beating Kabras 23-15 in the final, and retain the Impala Floodlit tournament for the third successive year, defeating Oliers 23-14 in the final.
He also led the team to win the National Sevens Series circuit with ease.
Olago will compete against Malkia Strikers' coach Paul Bitok, who successfully defended the All Africa Games title after beating Cameroon 3-1, and Harambee Starlets coach David Ouma, who guided the national women's football team to their first Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.
Other nominees include Carey Odhiambo, who led the national men's basketball team (the Morans) to an unprecedented silver medal in the AfroCan championship in Bamako, Mali, and Alex Alumira, who steered Vihiga Queens to a hat-trick of titles in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women's Premier League.
