Manchester United's David de Gea suffered a costly blunder on December 22, 2019, as Watford secured a 2-0 win over the Premier League giants at Vicarage Road.

The Spain international's error allowed Ismaila Sarr to score in the 50th minute, and the Senegalese winger then earned a penalty that Troy Deeney converted in the 54th minute.

Watford's victory marked their first home win of the season and their maiden victory under coach Nigel Pearson.

Manchester United, who had failed to build on their momentum from back-to-back wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City earlier in the month, produced a limp display and failed to hit the target in the first half.

Club record signing Paul Pogba made his first appearance since September 30 by coming on in the second half but failed to lift his side, who barely managed to trouble their former goalkeeper Ben Foster in the Watford goal.

Manchester United's fifth Premier League defeat of the season left them eighth in the standings on 25 points after 18 games, while Watford are still bottom but level on 12 points with Norwich City.
