Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed claims by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua that he allegedly threatened him, saying the allegations are a mere distraction.

Speaking in Busia County on Sunday, DP Ruto downplayed the claims, stating that the mere thought of it is a non-issue.

“Yule jamaa mwingine mliskia alilalamika juzi, ati nilimsalimia…ati nilifanya nini…(laughs)…ati nilimsalimia tu nikamwangalia, akakimbia kunishtaki kwa polisi. Kama angesalimiwa na huyu jamaa amekuwa akikoroga pot hapa si angekimbia Hague…” he said.

According to Mutua, the alleged threats were made by DP Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, and Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen at State House, Nairobi, on two separate occasions in 2019.

On November 25, 2019, Mutua claimed that Duale and Murkomen told him that he had a habit of attacking them and threatened to teach him a lesson because he had been criticizing Deputy President William Ruto.

On December 11, 2019, Mutua alleged that DP Ruto grabbed his hand and told him, “you fellow, you have been attacking me very much…I must now crush you…I will crush you.”

However, Duale and Murkomen have termed the claims as theatrics, saying that Mutua was trying to seek attention through the outrageous allegations.
