Deputy President William Ruto has called for unity in the region, citing the need for East Africa countries to work together for mutual economic benefit.

Speaking after meeting President Yoweri Museveni in Uganda, Ruto said the two countries had agreed to foster trade and peace in the region.

The deputy president was in Budalangi to attend the Isambo beach festival, where he also laid the foundation stone for the William Ruto Institute of African and Leadership Studies at Makerere University.

Webuye west Member of Parliament Dan Wanyama appealed to the Luhya community to support Ruto's bid for power.

Earlier, Ruto joined the Salvation Army faithful for a Church Service in Turbo constituency, Uasin Gishu county, where he urged the church to pray for the country's posterity.
