Mike Sonko's First Public Appearance After Release from Custody ¶
On December 21, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made his first public appearance since being released from police custody, visiting patients and new mothers at Pumwani Hospital, where he also distributed Christmas gifts.
Just a few days after being released on a KSh 15 million bail on December 11, 2019, Sonko had been keeping a low profile, sharing videos on social media from the comfort of his home.
During his visit to the hospital, Sonko emphasized the importance of kindness and generosity, especially during the Christmas season. He quoted Mother Teresa, saying, 'It is not how much we do, but how much love we put into what we do that counts.'
As the Governor of Nairobi, Sonko has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts, including being appointed as the Good Deeds Day Foundation's Ambassador for Kenya in 2019. He expressed his gratitude to the foundation for the recognition and to the UN and other organizations for their support.
However, Sonko's public appearance comes after a tumultuous period, during which he was accused of assaulting a police officer and damaging police equipment at the Ikanga Airport. He denied the allegations and was released on bail.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Sonko remains committed to spreading love and kindness, especially during the holiday season. His visit to Pumwani Hospital was a testament to his dedication to his community and his commitment to making a positive impact.
