On December 22, 2019, women in Embu celebrated the closure of two bars that had been blamed for ruining marriages in the area.

The bars, which were located in the Kiriga village, had been accused of contributing to the breakdown of marriages and the rise of domestic violence.

According to eyewitnesses, the bars had been a major source of trouble in the community, with many men frequenting them and neglecting their family responsibilities.

"Our husbands had abandoned their family responsibilities and were instead spending their time and money at the bars," said one woman.

The closure of the bars was a result of a campaign by the Embu County government to reduce the number of bars in the area and promote a culture of sobriety.

"We have informed the owners of the bars that they must close down and relocate to a different area for the benefit of the community," said George Omollo, the deputy county commissioner.

The women of Embu were overjoyed at the closure of the bars, which they saw as a major step towards restoring peace and stability in their community.
