On Saturday, December 21, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made a surprise visit to Pumwani Hospital, where he interacted with patients and distributed gifts to new mothers.
Clad in a Santa Claus suit and eyeglasses decorated with the Kenyan flag, Sonko's visit was a welcome respite for the hospital's residents.
Since his release from police custody on December 11, 2019, Sonko had kept a low profile, only occasionally sharing live videos from his home on social media.
However, on this festive occasion, the governor urged Kenyans to be generous to each other, especially during the Christmas season.
"Watu wangu (my people) as we usher in this festive season to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus, I wish to encourage you all to extend your generosity and kindness, however little, to your neighbours and community," Sonko wrote on Facebook.
He also revealed that he had been awarded the Volunteer Champion of the Year 2019 and the Good Deeds Day Ambassador for Kenya, and expressed his gratitude to the organizations that had recognized his efforts.
Despite his recent troubles, Sonko's visit to Pumwani Hospital was a heartwarming gesture that brought joy to the hospital's residents and staff.
