On a recent visit to Kenyan troops in Somalia, Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Jefwa Mwathethe emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant during the months of December and January. This period is typically marked by the transition and deployment of Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) in Somalia.

According to General Mwathethe, Kenya's presence in Somalia has yielded positive results, with many areas in the war-torn country experiencing peace and stability. He commended the troops for their efforts in dealing with the enemy and ensuring the country's safety.

General Mwathethe noted that despite being part of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM), Kenya has its own national interests to ensure that southern Somalia remains free from Al-Shabaab. He attributed the success of KDF troops in Somalia to the acquisition of sophisticated military artillery by the Kenyan government.

During his visit, General Mwathethe cautioned the troops to remain vigilant, especially during the transition period. He also commended the KDF for their community development initiatives, including the construction of classrooms and provision of medical services to the local population.
