On December 21, 2019, Liverpool lifted the Club World Cup trophy for the first time after a 1-0 win over Flamengo in the final at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
Roberto Firmino scored the winning goal in the 99th minute of the match, which was a repeat of the 1981 Intercontinental Cup final between the two teams.
Flamengo had been hoping to become the first non-European winners of the Club World Cup since Corinthians beat Chelsea in 2012, but they fell short.
"I couldn't be more happy for him that he could score that goal," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, praising Firmino's performance.
"It means the world to him, it helped us and on top of that it was a sensational goal," Klopp added.
The victory marked a fabulous year for Liverpool, with a third piece of silverware to go with the Champions League and Uefa Supercup.
"I said before the game that I didn't know how it would feel, but now I can say it's outstanding, absolutely sensational and I'm so proud of the boys," Klopp said after the match.
