On December 21, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto marked a milestone birthday in Uganda, where he was treated to a surprise celebration by the country's Parliament staff and Serena Kampala employees.

As he turned 53, Ruto was seen cutting a cake amidst cheers from the lawmakers and hotel staff, who had organized the surprise party.

The Deputy President was in Uganda on a courtesy call to President Yoweri Museveni at State Lodge, Mubende. During the visit, Museveni pledged Sh10 million towards the development of the William Ruto Institute of African and Leadership Studies.

As part of his tour, Ruto laid the foundation stone for the William Ruto Institute of African and Leadership Studies.

Accompanied by Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwa and other leaders, Ruto's visit to Uganda was a significant one, marked by the surprise birthday celebration.

Earlier in the day, Ruto's wife, Rachel, had penned a loving message to her husband on his special day, describing him as the best thing that has ever happened to her.
