On November 29, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Mirera estate, Naivasha, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Valerian Njeri.

A 17-year-old student from Nanyuki High School, who was a minor at the time, has been charged with his murder.

The teenager, who has been in custody since the incident, appeared in court dressed in a black hood and dark trousers and was charged before High Court Judge Richard Mwongo.

The victim's mother broke into tears upon seeing the suspect, prompting a police officer to intervene and unhandcuff him before the charges were read.

The suspect's advocate, F.I Mburu, requested lenient bail terms, citing the suspect's age and the fact that the parents were friends and neighbors who had coexisted for a long time.

According to Mburu, the suspect will be joining form four next year and the family is praying for the court to determine the bond terms before schools reopen.

Justice Mwongo directed that the minor be remanded at the Naivasha police station for the period until December 31, when he will make his ruling.
