On December 20, 2019, Kipchumba Murkomen, the Majority Leader in the Senate, delivered a speech at the burial ceremony of the late Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang's mother in Raila Odinga's backyard.

Murkomen's speech was met with excitement and applause from the mourners, who were impressed by his bold words. In his speech, he took issue with the speakers before him who had faulted the Tanga Tanga team for opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and the handshake.

However, Murkomen clarified that the Tanga Tanga team was not opposed to either of the two initiatives, but rather, they were wondering what the next move was. He reiterated that they supported the initiatives but were waiting for the BBI proposals to be passed in Parliament.

Murkomen further stated that matters such as unemployment, corruption, and lazy government officials could be dealt with decisively without the need for a constitutional amendment. He also questioned the clarity of the BBI team's intentions, saying that former Premier Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta had not been clear on what kind of governance they wanted.

“Baba (Raila) we have heard your calls for the constitutional amendment but you and Uhuru are not clear on this issue. What is it that you want? Do you want a parliamentary, presidential or high-breed system of governance?” Murkomen asked, as the mourners clapped in approval.

His speech has since sparked a lot of commentary on social media, with many Kenyans praising his bold words and clarity of thought.
