Heavy rainfall has pounded most parts of Kenya in recent months, causing destruction and displacement. As of December 2019, over 132 people had lost their lives, and thousands more were affected.
Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) has issued a notice alerting prospective visitors to the country's national parks that all hotels and lodges located in national parks and reserves are now accessible by road.
This comes after KWS previously reported that heavy rains had rendered some roads in national parks impassable. However, the Amboseli airstrip will remain closed until further notice due to safety considerations.
According to KWS director general Ngugi Gecaga, the water levels at the airstrip have subsided, and it is expected to be operational in the next few days, provided the current weather conditions prevail.
Other airstrips and roads affected by the heavy rains are fully operational and passable, Gecaga added.
