Exiled National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna is set to return to Kenya on January 7, 2020, after a court order reaffirmed his right to Kenyan citizenship.

Published on December 22, 2019, Miguna's last attempt to return to Kenya in 2018 was unsuccessful, with State security agents deployed at the JKIA to deport him.

However, with the March 9, 2018 truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his election rival, Raila Odinga, having reduced the political temperatures in the country, Miguna's perceived threat levels have gone down.

But Miguna's return will still significantly test the progress the country has made on the democracy path since the last disputed election.

Some of his former friends, colleagues, and rivals have been up to while he was away. Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko, who were once rivals for the Nairobi governor's seat, are now facing graft charges.

David Ndii, a former Nasa campaign consultant, has been flirting with Deputy President William Ruto, suggesting that he could be Kenya's next great democracy project.
