On a visit to Vihiga County on Friday, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi emphasized the need for Kenyans to prioritize restoring the economy and fighting corruption to achieve prosperity.

During the homecoming ceremony of Mungoma MCA Wycliffe Masini, Mr. Mudavadi highlighted the dire state of the economy, citing the closure of sugar companies and Pan-Paper mills in the Western region as a major contributor to the country's economic woes.

“The economy is crumbling and companies are closing shop,” he said, stressing the need for immediate solutions to prevent further deterioration.

Mr. Mudavadi's sentiments were echoed by Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo, who praised the ANC leader as a skilled economist with the country's best interests at heart.

“He has earned a lot of respect across the country. He spoke well during the BBI launch. He is good in matters economy,” said Dr. Ottichilo.

However, not all leaders present at the ceremony shared Mr. Mudavadi's views on the BBI. Hamisi MP Charles Gimose expressed his support for the report, stating that he would back Mr. Mudavadi on its implementation.

Published on December 21, 2019, the BBI report has been at the center of intense debate, with politicians allied to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga calling for a referendum, while those allied to Deputy President William Ruto have expressed openness to alternative methods of implementation.
