Kenya is on high alert after a Cholera outbreak spread to 12 counties, with 147 people currently hospitalized and 37 deaths reported since January this year.

According to a report from the Ministry of Health, the affected counties are Narok, Kajiado, Nairobi, Garissa, Mandera, Machakos, Embu, Wajir, Mombasa, Turkana, Makueni, and Kisumu.

While the outbreak is still active in four counties - Nairobi, Garissa, Mandera, and Turkana - the others have reportedly managed to control it.

Notably, Nairobi County has seen cases in Embakasi East, Embakasi West, Starehe, Ruaraka, Kibera, Lang'ata, Kasarani, Dagoretti North, Westlands, and Kamukunji sub-counties.

Garissa County cases have been reported in Hagadera and IFO refugee camps, while Turkana County cases are from Kakuma, Kalobeyei, and Lopur in Turkana West sub-county.

Additionally, 17 cases have been reported in Mandera County, with four confirmed.

Separately, three people in Kirinyaga County are being treated for Cholera symptoms, with one already testing positive.

George Karoki, the Kirinyaga County Director of Health, advised residents to report to the nearest health facility if they notice Cholera-like symptoms and to observe hygiene by drinking clean boiled water and washing hands after visiting toilets.
