Residents of Magunga, Suba South constituency, have finally seen the light after a market lighting project was installed in the area, bringing an end to decades of relying on moonlight.

The project, which saw the installation of over 30 streetlights, was initiated by Gwasii South Ward MCA Ajimba Ayieta, who downplayed the locals' reaction, saying it was his job to create a conducive environment for traders.

Speaking to The Standard on phone, Ayieta said the project was long overdue, following the recent launch of the market by the office of the Woman Rep, Gladys Wanga. He praised the national government and Kenya Power and Lighting Company for making sure the project took off.

Residents have taken to social media to shower Ayieta with praise for his good job, with some calling him a 'good leader' and others urging him to bring more projects to the area.

Traders can now operate at night, and some have expressed their gratitude, saying it will help them get money in their pockets. Others have challenged Ayieta to lobby for roads so that goods can be easily transported to the market.

Magunga market has 60 cubes and drawers in which traders can keep their goods, and the new lighting project is expected to improve the lives of the residents.
