On December 20, 2019, Zambian President Edgar Lungu fired his special assistant for political affairs, Kaizer Zulu, amidst growing public pressure.
The reasons behind Zulu's dismissal were not disclosed, but his tenure was marked by numerous scandals, including brandishing a gun in public and instructing his 'boys' to clobber a minibus driver.
According to reports, Zulu's latest antics involved him ordering his 'boys' to assault a minibus driver after allegedly hitting him. The police were investigating the matter, but Zulu was not summoned.
He later appeared on a TV talk show attempting to exonerate himself after facing intense criticism.
Local media have reported several incidents of Zulu brandishing a gun in public, and he also appeared in court recently on assault charges after an incident at a guest house in the capital Lusaka.
President Lungu has appointed Chris Zimba as his new political advisor, urging him to 'steer clear of trouble.'
Chris Zimba, a youthful academic from the University of Zambia, is a PhD student in politics and holds a Master's degree in Democracy.
