Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has emphasized the importance of performance in determining his future at the club, stating that he still has to earn a new contract despite winning five major trophies in the past two seasons.

Guardiola's current deal expires in 2021, and City are keen for him to commit to a new contract. However, the 48-year-old manager has expressed his desire to focus on performance rather than rushing into a new deal.

"I have one more year and always I have to deserve to extend my contract," Guardiola said in a recent interview.

Guardiola has been at Manchester City since 2016 and has led the team to numerous successes, including five major trophies in the past two seasons. Despite this, he believes that performance will be a key factor in determining his future at the club.

"Managers, we have to get results. At this club you have to win. In football, we spoke about this, the situation changed a lot, managers today, even in this country, they change a lot," Guardiola explained.

Guardiola's comments come as City face Leicester on Saturday, looking to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool. The team will be without assistant manager Mikel Arteta, who has joined Arsenal, but Rodolfo Borrell will step up to take his place.

Guardiola's contract situation has been a topic of discussion in recent months, with some pundits suggesting that he may leave the club after his current deal expires. However, Guardiola has expressed his desire to stay at Manchester City for as long as possible.

"I said many times how incredible, what a good time I have here, and I would like to stay as long as possible," Guardiola said.
