Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has sparked a conversation about polygamous marriages after publicly defending her own union.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Passaris shared her journey of coming to terms with being in a polygamous marriage, which she initially struggled with.

She explained that it was not her plan to be in a polygamous union, but fate led her to it.

"I can’t be embarrassed or ashamed of who I am and what I have experienced. So if I am ashamed of who I am, I mean there was a time that I battled about being in a polygamous marriage. I didn’t plan for it, I ended up in it," she said.

Passaris, who has two children with billionaire Pius Ngugi, praised her husband for always trying his best to spend time with their children, despite the challenges that come with polygamous marriages.

"We’ve raised two beautiful children even though you know when you are in a polygamous marriage, the father doesn’t have enough time," she said.

Passaris also shared a quote from someone who told her that her life is like a book, and every chapter is who she is. She concluded by saying that she believes every experience is a learning curve and that God puts us through certain experiences so that we can find him.

Passaris has been open about her polygamous marriage in the past, stating in 2016 that she was neither proud of it nor ashamed of it.
