December 20, 2019, marked a significant turn of events for Modern Coast buses in Kenya. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) had earlier suspended the company's operations following a fatal accident that claimed two lives and left 62 others injured.
However, in a sudden reversal, NTSA announced that it had lifted the suspension on Modern Coast buses. The decision comes after the company successfully completed a series of safety checks and retraining for its drivers.
According to NTSA Director Dido Guyatu, the authority had reached a consensus to reinstate the company's license after eight days of suspension. 'We wish to inform the public that the suspension on Modern Coast buses has been lifted,' Guyatu stated.
Modern Coast had earlier claimed to have re-launched its operations after conducting a thorough review of its fleet and retraining its drivers. The company had taken the initiative to inspect its buses and provide additional training to its staff, a move that was initially dismissed by NTSA.
With the suspension lifted, Modern Coast buses are now back on the road, providing essential transportation services to the public.
