On December 21, 2019, Kenya's Junior Starlets secured a respectable third place finish at the Cecafa Under 17 Women Challenge Cup, held in Jinja.
Coached by Jackeline Juma, the team's performance was a great learning experience, with Juma stating, "The tournament was a great lesson on what the team needs to work on if they want to compete in international events.".
Kenya's campaign was marked by two wins, two losses, and a draw, earning them seven points. Uganda emerged as the tournament winners with 13 points, while Tanzania secured second place with 11 points.
Despite the challenges of assembling the team just three days prior to the tournament, Juma expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, saying, "We assembled the team three days to the tournament and therefore didn't have much time to prepare which might have affected our performance. But I'm glad we came in among the top three and now know what to do next year to get the title.".
Juma also thanked the high schools that released their players on short notice and urged the institutions to obtain traveling documentation for the young girls in advance to avoid missing out on talented players.
