Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna is set to return to Kenya on January 7th, after a Kenyan court ruled in his favor, declaring him a Kenyan by birth and awarding him Sh7.2 million in compensation.
According to a tweet by Miguna, he will land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi on Tuesday, January 7th at 9:25 pm aboard a Lufthansa flight LH 590.
“Homecoming. Birthright, Constitutional rights, and court orders. Change by popular demand. Arrival: Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at 9:25 pm via a Lufthansa flight LH 590,” Miguna tweeted.
Miguna was first deported in February last year after his arrest over his role in the mock swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga on January 30th, 2018. He had renounced his Kenyan citizenship when acquiring a Canadian passport, but the immigration department later said that he was in Kenya illegally.
However, in December last year, the High Court ruled that Miguna is a Kenyan by birth and holding a Canadian passport does not deny him his birthright.
