On December 20, 2019, a tragic incident shook the residents of Kianyaga Trading Centre in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County.

A policewoman, Caroline Wangari Mbote, aged 31, was stabbed to death by her husband, Samuel Kiama, 40, a butcher, in their home at the Kianyaga police line.

According to Gichugu OCPD Anthony Mbogo, Wangari failed to report to work at Kianyaga Police Station, prompting one of her colleagues to look for her.

Upon reaching the officer's house, Wangari's colleague knocked on the door but received no response. She then alerted her colleagues after peeping through the window and seeing someone lying on the floor.

Officers who arrived at the scene broke into the house and found Wangari lying in a pool of blood, having been stabbed several times with a kitchen knife.

Samuel Kiama was found hanging from the roof of the house with a piece of cloth around his neck. A suicide note left behind suggested that he suspected his wife of infidelity.

Neighbours were shocked by the incident, as the couple appeared to have been living peacefully.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus.
