Makerere University in Uganda has taken a significant step by recognizing Deputy President William Ruto of Kenya and establishing an institute of African studies named after him.

The institute, which will be named after DP Ruto, will focus on finding better ways to learn about Africa.

According to a letter from the university's Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, the institute was requested by the office of the President of Uganda.

"The university has been requested by the office of the President to establish an institute of African studies named after William Ruto," Professor Nawangwe said in the letter.

The institute will be officially launched on December 21, 2019, with DP Ruto expected to lay the foundation stone of the building.

DP Ruto has been a close friend of the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and has been visiting the country regularly.

During the last presidential election in Uganda, DP Ruto traveled to the country to campaign for Museveni.
