On December 20, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Kianyaga Trading Center, Gichungu Constituency, Kirinyaga County, where a female police officer was stabbed to death by her husband.
The officer, Caroline Wangari Mbote, aged 31, had missed work at the Kianyaga Police Station, prompting one of her colleagues to investigate her absence.
Upon arrival at the officer's house at Kianyaga police line, the colleague knocked on the door but received no response. She later peeped through the window and saw someone lying on the floor, alerting other colleagues.
The officers arrived and broke the door, finding Wanari lying on the floor in a pool of blood, having been stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife.
The officer's 40-year-old husband, a butcher, was also found hanging from the roof with a piece of cloth around his neck.
A suicide note left behind by the husband contained details connecting the deceased wife with infidelity, according to the police.
Neighbors were shocked by the incident, as they had known the couple to be peace-loving in their entire lives.
The remains of the couple were taken to Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus.
