As the third AK Cross Country Series gets underway in Nyandarua, Nyahururu-based athlete Allan Kemboi is expected to light up the Ol Kalau stadium on December 28, 2019. The 10km senior men race is part of the Anti-Doping Awareness event.
Kemboi, who finished fourth in the first round in Machakos on November 23, 2019, before winning in Sotik on December 14, 2019, will be banking on the home advantage to make it to team Kenya for the Africa Cross Country Championship in Togo.
Course manager Athletics Kenya Nyandarua branch secretary general Lawrence Miano expects a huge turnout of athletes, with seven military camps in the area training for the Kenya Defence Forces Cross Country Championships and 30km Road Race set for next month.
“The weather is perfect, and our target is between 700 and 800 athletes,” Miano said, adding that the course has been modified to include new obstacles to make it more challenging.
The series, which kicked off in Machakos on November 23, 2019, will have its next leg in Kapsokwony on December 28, 2019, followed by Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County on January 4, 2020.
