On Friday, December 20, 2019, Busia men's soccer team made history by qualifying for the final of the Kenya Youth Inter-Counties Sports Association (KYISA) games after a thrilling 4-3 win over Nyandarua in a penalty shootout at the Busia County Stadium.
The match was a nail-biter, with Nyandarua stunning the hosts with a 47th-minute goal through John Gathii. However, Busia's Sammu Barasa equalized in the 50th minute, sending the game into penalties after it remained deadlocked even after extra time.
Busia's Gilbert Abala, Dennis Toboso, Bockins Adeya, and Valentine Otieno scored crucial penalties, while captain Sammy Barasa narrowly missed his shot. Nyandarua's Eric Macharia, Paul Muthami, and Lawrence Ochieng scored, but Joel Kimani's decisive penalty hit the post, sparking wild celebrations among hundreds of Busia supporters who carried players shoulder-high for their heroics.
Busia will now face Nakuru in the final on Saturday, after the latter rallied from two goals down to beat Embu 4-2 in the other semi-final clash.
Coach Felix Oucho hailed his team's fans, saying, 'I am happy that fans have started embracing their homegrown talent by giving them the necessary support, they have not disappointed.' He added that he is ready for Nakuru.
