On December 20, 2019, the African Development Bank (AfDB) announced that it had approved a $272 million loan to Tanzania to build a new international airport in Dodoma, the country's administrative capital.

The airport, which will be built in Msalato, 12 km from Dodoma, is expected to take four years to complete and will have a capacity to handle 1 million passengers annually.

According to AfDB, the new airport is part of a broader program to expand Tanzania's infrastructure, and the loan is a significant step towards achieving this goal.

It's worth noting that the city of Dodoma has a population of just over 2 million people, making the new airport's capacity seem ambitious.

Earlier in October 2019, the Tanzanian government had announced that it had completed the relocation of all its administrative functions from Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital, to Dodoma.
