Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has dropped her plans to sue singer King Kaka over the Wajinga Nyinyi song. In a Twitter post, Waiguru stated that she had decided not to proceed with the lawsuit, citing King Kaka's recent behavior as the reason.
Waiguru had initially ordered King Kaka to pull down the song from all social media platforms and apologize to her in writing or face a legal suit. However, she has now decided to drop the matter, saying that it is unfortunate when talented youth are taken advantage of by politicians and used to settle political scores.
Waiguru had given King Kaka 48 hours to issue an unconditional admission of liability in writing, apologize in writing, and delete the song. She had also demanded a retraction of the song and an unconditional commitment not to release any further defamatory songs against her.
King Kaka's song, which was released on December 14, has gained over 2.1 million views on YouTube. The song sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some criticizing King Kaka for using the words Wajinga Nyinyi, which means 'you fools' in Swahili, to castigate voters.
Waiguru's decision not to sue King Kaka comes after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) denied summoning the rapper. The DCI had criticized those using the agency for publicity, warning them to desist from using the @DCI_Kenya handle to seek media attention.
