On December 20, 2019, Tottenham Hotspur announced that defender Toby Alderweireld had signed a new contract with the club, ending speculation over his future.

The 30-year-old Belgian international signed a deal that will keep him at the club until 2023, a significant boost for the team ahead of their match against Chelsea on Sunday.

"I am very, very happy," said Alderweireld after signing the new deal. "I think no words can describe. I think another couple of years here at Spurs, there is no place I can be happier. I am honoured to play for this club and am a small piece of getting to the next level."

Tottenham face a crucial match against Chelsea on Sunday, with a win potentially seeing them join the top four Premier League race.
