Kasarani Taxi Driver Charged with Wife's Strangulation

On November 26, a tragic incident unfolded at a home in Hunters within Kasarani Sub-County, where a taxi driver allegedly assaulted his wife.

Joseph Kariuki Ndungu, a taxi driver, is accused of strangling his wife Lydia Wakongu Muthoni after she arrived home late from a wedding, leaving their child in his care.

According to police, Muthoni had left their child with her husband to attend a wedding but overstayed and returned home at 10pm.

Angered by her late arrival, Kariuki allegedly grabbed Muthoni's phone, smashed it, and then dumped it in a drum full of water.

He then allegedly grabbed her by the neck, causing her injury.

On December 20, 2019, Kariuki was charged with the offence of malicious damage of a mobile phone valued at Sh13,000.

He denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000. The matter will be heard on April 2, 2020.
