As the war against corruption intensifies in Kenya, a number of governors have found themselves in a precarious position. According to reports, these governors have been befriending ODM leader Raila Odinga in a bid to avoid arrest by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Among those implicated are governors from the Deputy President William Ruto's camp, who are allegedly being targeted in the corruption purge. It has emerged that these governors have been donating heavily to by-elections, including the recent Kibra and Wajir's Batalu ward by-elections.
The list of governors allegedly involved in this scheme includes:
- Alfred Mutua (Machakos)
- Cyprian Awiti (Homabay)
- Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega)
- Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia)
- Ali Hassan Joho (Mombassa)
- Charity Ngilu (Kitui)
- Cornel Rasanga (Siaya)
- Amason Kingi (Kilifi)
- John Nyangarama (Nyamira)
- James Ongwae (Kisii)
- Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo Marakwet)
Homabay governor Cyprian Awiti has been linked to the alleged scheme.
