On December 20, 2019, five Members of Parliament from Isiolo County took Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney to court over a contentious decision to adjudicate community land.

The MPs, who filed a petition on Friday, claim that the decision is illegal and are seeking to have the legal notice issued by CS Karoney retracted and stopped from being implemented.

According to the petition, the CS and Attorney General Kihara Kariuki are accused of overstepping their authority in the matter.

CS Karoney had previously clarified that the adjudication process would be conducted by the Isiolo County government, stating in November, "The schedule of the settlement areas will be compiled by the County Government and formally submitted to the Cabinet Secretary,"

The process of land adjudication involves determining and recording of rights and interests of individuals residing on registered Community Land for the purpose of facilitating the registration of titles.
