Ephie Moraa, a 24-year-old psychology graduate, had been looking forward to her graduation day at Kisii University on December 20, 2019. However, her special day took a dramatic turn when her entire village arrived in a hearse, leaving her hospitalized.
According to reports, Moraa had arrived at the graduation square barely 50 minutes before the hearse arrived, accompanied by 15 villagers from her native Suneka. The group's arrival caused Moraa to lose consciousness, become dizzy, stumble, and fall to the ground.
It is reported that the villagers, who were apprehended by police officers pending an investigation, had brought the hearse as a symbol of death in their culture. However, some argue that it could be a case of confusion or desperation due to transport issues during the graduation period.
As Moraa lay hospitalized, her parents were nowhere to be found, and it has not been established why they did not attend the graduation ceremony. Moraa had expressed her desire to pursue a leisure management course at Kenyatta University after completing her degree in psychology.
