On December 19, 2019, Tana North Deputy County Commissioner Philip Soy issued a stern warning to local chiefs and their assistants in Mulancho location. He instructed them to ensure that all school-aged children are enrolled in school by January next year.
Soy warned that any administrator who defies this directive will be held personally liable.
Speaking during the inauguration of Chief Mumina Harun, Soy emphasized the importance of the chiefs taking the lead in this operation and working closely with elected leaders to ensure its success.
“This is an order. We shall launch a massive operation come January to ensure that all our school-going children are enrolled in school,” Soy said.
Chief Mumina Harun, who was inaugurated on the same day, vowed to prioritize the fight against early marriages and pregnancies among teenage girls. She promised to serve all residents of Mulancho location, regardless of their tribe, clan, gender, or status in the community.
Abshiro Mansa, an activist with the Girl Child Network, hailed Mumina's promotion as an honor to women in Tana North who have endured discrimination by their male counterparts.
