As the curtain falls on 2019, one thing is clear: it was a year of incredible football comebacks. From Manchester United's stunning turnaround against Paris St Germain to Liverpool's dominant win over Barcelona, the year was filled with thrilling moments that left fans on the edge of their seats.

For the first time in history, all four finalists in Europe's two club competitions came from the same country, with Liverpool and Chelsea emerging victorious in the Champions League and Europa League finals, respectively.

The women's game also saw unprecedented interest, with the United States defending their World Cup title in a thrilling 2-0 win over the Netherlands in the final in Lyon.

But it was the men's Champions League that stole the show, with several teams producing stunning comebacks that will be remembered for years to come.

Manchester United's comeback against Paris St Germain was one of the most remarkable, with a stoppage-time penalty from Marcus Rashford giving them a 3-1 win at the Parc de Princes and a remarkable aggregate victory on away goals.

The quarter-finals also produced late drama, with Manchester City being eliminated by Tottenham on away goals after the tie ended 4-4.

But the most astonishing comeback of the year came in the Champions League semi-final, when Liverpool came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield.

And just 24 hours later, Ajax's Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech put the Dutch side 3-0 up on aggregate against Spurs at halftime, only for Lucas Moura to score a second-half hat-trick, including the aggregate winner, six minutes into stoppage time.

It was a year that will be remembered for its incredible football comebacks, and fans of the sport will be eagerly awaiting what 2020 has in store.
