Kenya's Western region has witnessed a resurgence of its academic giants, with several schools reclaiming their top positions in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

According to results announced by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, schools such as Kakamega School, Friends School Kamusinga, Bunyore Girls, and Chavakali Boys have made a comeback, posting impressive results.

Among the top performers was Kakamega School, which recorded a mean score of 7.6, up from 6.8 in 2018. The school had three candidates scoring A and 25 posting A minus.

Friends School Kamusinga, on the other hand, had nine straight As and 62 A minus, with a mean score of 9.16, an improvement from last year's 8.3.

Other schools that made it to the top include Bunyore Girls, which posted a mean score of 8.893, and Mudasa Academy, which recorded a mean score of 8.62.

Chavakali Boys, which had its KCSE results cancelled in 2015 due to irregularities, overcame the setback and posted an improved performance this year, with eight candidates scoring A and 42 clinching A minus.

St Peter's Boys, led by Principal Gerald Orina, attributed their good results to discipline among students. "We work closely with parents and leaders in the county to improve the learning environment and enhance discipline in the school so that we can have good results," said Mr Orina.
