Kenya's education sector has witnessed a remarkable improvement in the performance of students in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The top-performing schools in the Nyanza region have set a new benchmark in university entry qualifications.
According to the results, Maseno School in Kisumu county emerged as the top-performing school in the region, with 91.4% of its 477 candidates qualifying for direct university entry. The school had a mean score of 9.099, with 23 candidates scoring straight As, 89 A-, 109 B+, 99 Bs, 73 B-, and 43 C+.
Other top-performing schools in the region include Agoro Sare Asumbi Girls High, Maranda High, and Kanga School. Agoro Sare had 88.9% of its candidates qualify for university, while Asumbi Girls had 88.1% of its 405 candidates scoring C+ and above. Maranda High School in Siaya had 87.8% of its 705 candidates qualify for university, with 19 of them scoring straight As.
Maranda High School also recorded the most remarkable improvement in performance, with a mean score of 8.9, up from 8.4 last year. The school posted 19 straight As and had 142 students score A-minus, according to Principal Edwin Namachanja.
Other high-performing schools in the region include Kisumu Girls, Ng'iya in Siaya, and Nyabururu Girls in Kisii County. Kisumu Girls had 76.2% of its 341 candidates qualify for university, while Ng'iya had 59% of its 392 candidates score C+ and above. Nyabururu Girls had 69% of its candidates qualify for university.
