On Friday morning, Nairobi's roads were brought to a standstill as four universities held their graduation ceremonies, causing a major traffic jam for motorists and commuters.

The universities involved were the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Daystar University, and Mt Kenya University, all of which are located within and around the city.

Traditionally, family, relatives, and friends of graduating students travel from all parts of the country to attend these ceremonies, resulting in a large number of people attending the events.

As a result, traffic gridlock is a common occurrence in roads leading to and within the venues of these ceremonies.

On Friday, heavy traffic was already being experienced in and out of Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD), with the most affected roads being Waiyaki Way, Thika Superhighway, and Mombasa Road.

The graduation ceremonies at Kenyatta University and Mt Kenya University had a significant impact on traffic along the Thika Superhighway, while the University of Nairobi's ceremony affected traffic within some roads in the CBD.

Meanwhile, traffic flow along Mombasa Road was affected by the graduation ceremony at Daystar University, which was being held at the institution's main campus at Athi River.

Motorists were advised to exercise caution and make informed decisions when routing their way to any destinations linked to the main roads listed and the Nairobi CBD.
