Leaders from the Kuria community in Migori County have been calling for a separate county to be created for them, allowing them to fully express the challenges they have faced since Kenya gained independence.

According to social media user Chrys Chacha, the leaders, led by former MP Wilifred Machage and Kuria East MP Marwa Maisori, have emphasized the need for the community to be recognized specifically in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

"The creation of a separate Kuria county was already discussed in the BBI report, but the proposal was dropped when the report was launched at Bomas in Nairobi," Maisori said.

Maisori, who was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket, stressed that the BBI team gave them the opportunity to propose the creation of a Kuria county alongside Migori County.

"The proposal for a Kuria county was discussed in the BBI report, but I heard it was dropped in Naivasha. We had our proposals, but they were rejected," Maisori said.
